In April 2007, the Morris Animal Foundation launched a five-year, $30 million global campaign to cure canine cancer. In a joint announcement, Pets Best, a leading national pet insurance company and the sponsor of this site, pledged $1 million to the Morris Animal Foundation canine cancer campaign. In addition, Pets Best joined Morris Animal Foundation in its quest to educate the public about canine cancers, resources and treatment options. We want to help more pets receive cancer treatment until a cure can be found!
Pets Best also has partnered with Oncura Partners to provide any pet owner in the United States with a free initial oncology consultation through their veterinarian to determine the best treatment for the pet (including pets who are not insured).
A personal note from Jack Stephens, president of Pets Best Insurance.
I have been asked, “Why would a pet insurance company want to promote expensive cancer treatments? Isn’t your encouragement and free consultation going to increase your cost? And is that not counter to controlling cost and claim payments?”
My response is that in the short run and the narrow view, yes it might be. We are telling our insured pet owners where and how to get the best care and hopefully cure their pet. That will increase our cost.
In the broader perspective, it will keep our insured pets living longer and healthier lives, bringing joy to their families. And that is our mission: To provide reimbursement for the best pet care possible.
